THE MISSION STATEMENT
The Cape Fear Independent Film Network was founded in 2001 for the purpose of enabling the free and open exchange of information and resources between filmmakers. It also seeks to bring exposure for the works of these filmmakers to the local community and beyond.
This is done through a combination of production, promotion and presentation of independent movies in and around the Cape Fear region. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, CFiFN will commit its own resources and leverage the extensive resources of the film community in Wilmington, North Carolina to further the development of new cinema and raise interest in independent cinematic arts in the surrounding area.
CFiFN wants to provide maximum exposure for work made in this area and by area filmmakers. The cornerstone of our efforts is the Cape Fear Independent Film Festival. It’s a three day event featuring exciting films from around the world, live music and entertainment and proves that big budgets don’t always mean better movies. We will also be adding streaming video to our website which will allow viewers from around the world to watch short films by CFiFN members and trailers from the upcoming festival.
The group's primary focus is education and training of new filmmakers. Through the ongoing projects of group members in a collaborative environment, participants have the opportunity to hone skills or acquire new ones in a real production environment no matter what their educational or industry background.
Through the ongoing educational efforts and other annual events, we will inspire and assist not just new directors, but actors and musicians and artists of all types.
The unique thing about the film medium is that it incorporates so many other artforms and crafts into the finished product and the Cape Fear region is brimming over with these artists, longing for more creative outlets. The film festival is not just an event, but the culmination of a year’s worth of hard work and creativity, bringing to the public artistic expressions that are intriguing, original, and entertaining. CFiFN is not just bringing art to the community. We are bringing the community to art.
